The Petition

We, the undersigned Oklahomans, hereby express our opposition to State Question 836 and urge Oklahoma voters to vote NO on this measure.

We oppose SQ 836 because:

  • It eliminates Oklahoma's traditional primary system that has effectively served our state for decades
  • It creates a "jungle primary" system that could result in general elections with limited voter choice
  • It increases complexity and confusion in the electoral process for voters and candidates alike
  • It weakens the role of political parties in supporting candidates aligned with their platforms
  • It is funded primarily by out-of-state special interests who do not understand Oklahoma's political landscape
  • Similar systems in other states have not demonstrated improved voter turnout or electoral outcomes

We believe that Oklahoma's election system should ensure all parties are represented in the general election, providing voters with meaningful choices across the political spectrum. The current system guarantees this representation, while SQ 836 would eliminate it by allowing general elections with candidates from only one party. We urge all Oklahomans to carefully consider the consequences of this dramatic change to our electoral process.

We call on Oklahoma voters to VOTE NO on State Question 836 and preserve our proven election system.
